Heater Fire Update - 2012

In November of 2010, we had a heater fire in our store.  It is now January, 2012 and the claim is still not completely settled.  On Thursday, we had a meeting with our public adjuster.  Finally, our inventory claim has been settled.  Is that the end of negotiations?  I wish it were.  There are still other parts of the claim that have to be hammered out.  When most people heard of  the mishap, they commented  no problem -you guys have insurance.  I cannot begin to explain the stress, sleepless nights, and aggravation - both personal and business the ordeal has caused.  Imagine dealing with our public adjuster, the insurance company's adjuster,  lawyers, the heating company, New Jersey insurance commission, our accountant and trying keep our business afloat.  And let's not forget the family obligations.
Sometimes we just want to throw the towel in.  It is very distressing to realize some of the so called professional people we are dealing with are not trustworthy.  Is there a light at the end of the tunnel?  Probably not for another year.  It seems in New Jersey, insurance companies have up to two years to finalize a claim.

As I have stated many times, we are not a super store, just a mom and pop establishment.
On the bright side, Embroidery Fashions Boutique has had a very successful holiday season. We also  have some terrific new inventory which we will be listing.
2012 can only get better and we're ready for it!

  1. Everything happens as it should - in God's own time. Destress yourselves and let Him handle it. And all of us cyber-friends will be praying for you!

  2. Until you've been there you can't really imagine what is involved in any situation. Hang in there!
My daughter and family went through a similar ordeal with insurance company after "Ike" dropped a tree on their house. After almost going crazy over it, everything turned out good for them. Hope that is the case for you and after it is all over, you can join them in saying "God is so good!"

  3. You can do this, EFB - don't let them get to you. They're hoping you'll give up but you've got faith behind you so they don't even know that they can't win! You will be victorious :D
